In September 2019, Llyn Llech Owain Country Park was named one of twelve Discovery Gateway sites within the Valleys Regional Park.

Stretching from Carmarthen to Pontypool and Bridgend to Merthyr Tydfil, the Valleys Regional Park is for all who live, work or visit the South Wales Valleys. This unique landscape holds the promise of memorable experiences for everyone: from family members of all ages to walkers, to fitness enthusiasts and to those who want to find new friendships or volunteer opportunities. Unearth the incredible stories of the Valleys and learn more about its rich cultural heritage by meeting people in neighbouring towns and villages, helping to protect the inspiring landscapes or simply enjoying getting outdoors to breathe some fresh air; the choices are as varied as the changing landscape.

Discovery Gateways are launchpads for you to embrace the natural landscape and understand more about the history of the South Wales Valleys. Discovery Gateways are places where you can have fun, explore the landscape and find out more about local wildlife and nature habitats. The Valleys Regional Park named Llyn Llech Owain Country Park as a Discovery Gateway because it is just one of the many amazing places from which you can discover in the South Wales Valleys.
